Thirty-One Days Before the Half Marathon

The half marathon is just around the corner and a couple of months after that is the Chicago Marathon.  Everything has been going a bit smoothly.  I am maintaining my weight.  I feel stronger.  Positive energy is running through my veins.  I’m raising money for a good cause.

I feel better after every run and every ride.  I’m confident that I’ll will earn a better time at this half marathon and at the Chicago Marathon.  There’s a temptation to go farther and go faster.  I resist because it’s important to me to be injury free at the starting line.  After this week, I plan to add resistance training on my easy days.

I’ve kept up with my training schedule.  I tweaked it a bit after intrusions from other parts of my life.  I experience days I don’t want to run for various reasons, mainly because my head isn’t it.  I promise to at least walk a mile and end up running my routes.  I feel so good afterward.

My weight has been the same  202 pounds since the my trip in May. I eat to maintain my weight.  I admit that I am an emotional eater haven’t been any negative moments in my life recently.  With the help of people, I expect to not encounter anything major by developing skills and habits to avoid those moments.  Thanks Vera.  Between now and the half marathon, my goal is to lose at least ten more pounds to get me back to my weight during my freshman year of college.

I started a calorie ledger to remind me that I’m cutting a little bit back so I can invest in my health.  It helps me avoid excess calories yet allows me to splurge on things I enjoy like Coca-Cola products. It gives me the flexibility I need for the lifestyle I have. Keeping a highly structured and regimented diet like I had  on my trip is difficult when so many options and temptations are presented to you.

My goal as a charity runner is to raise $600.00 before I cross the finish line at the half marathon in August. A number of friends have promised to donate what they can ($1.00, $5.00, $100 and up).  I want to thank everyone in advance.  Your support means a lot to me.

One more thing… my brother Patrick is raising money for the marathon as well.  Check out his blog at http://www.patrickontherun.com/.  He’s raising money for the American Cancer Society in honor of my Uncle Ed.
