Heads California, Tails Carolina: Travel Plans for 2009

With school, debt, and part-time work using much of my resources, there isn’t much left to spend on travel and vacation.  Fortunately, the three trips for this year are relatively low cost.  Each trip is focused on activity that will help me achieve my goal of obtaining and maintaining a healthy weight.

Matthew’s planning a group trip to Southern Illinois to learn how to trad climb during my spring break.  Fun stuff.  He wants to go during the month of March.  It’ll be perfect if we can go during my Spring Break.

My second confirmed trip is my annual trip to North Manitou during Labor Day weekend.  This year, I want to spend four days exercising and relaxing.  I’ll be bringing my trail running shoes for this trip.  I might have to go ahead of the group but I need the days off to recharge.  It will cost me a ferry ride, gas, and a small park entry fee.

Next December, I will be headed east to celebrate New Years in New York City, visit my buddy Thom, see Amanda, and have dinner with my Tita Lina.  In between, I’ll be in New Hampshire learning to ice climb, ski in Vermont, and snowshoe in Valley Forge.  This is the most expensive of the three trips because of transportation costs, gear, and well, New York City.  I’ve already started a gear list of everything I have and I still need to get.  I’m definitely be taking advantage of my employee discounts to get quality gear for cheap.  The gear list is over at the REI Adventures website in case you’re curious.

Do you believe that I’m already dreaming of 2010?  My cousin Erk is turn 21 and all his cousins want to take him  to Las Vegas.  Red Rock is in the area so I might go camping and attempt to do some outdoor climbing for a couple of days.  I suck at climbing right now but I should be better by then.  If my academic schedule and plan allows it, I am also planning a road trip around the country experiencing everything the United States has to offer.  A summer road trip will require a lot of planning and organizing but it’ll get done.  If I visited your area, what’s is there to do, see, and experience?
