The Caveman is experiencing anxiety over the birth of his second child. He feels horrible over it and it is affecting other parts of his life. Anxiety is just one of many motions that acts as a guide post. A little anxiety isn’t bad. In some cases, it becomes to be debilitating because the anxiety grows and takes over your life. I have had to deal with anxiety much of my life. I’ve finally sought out help and here are a few things to deal with and alleviate anxiety.
- Breathe Deeply and Slowly- Anxiety pulls people into a vicious cycle. A person gets anxious thoughts and their body responds to it with anxious activities. Those activities grows the anxious thoughts. Breathing slowly and deeply physically stops that process.
- Meditate and Prayer- Used in conjunction with breathing exercises, it allows a person’s mind to calm down and come back to focus. It helps by allowing a person to concentrate on one thing on their mind. This focuses on the mental and spiritual part.
- Stop Over Thinking- I over think things. It builds into something thing that is no longer based in reality. I end up focusing on the positive negative outcomes or the things that might go wrong. The Caveman knows what to expect now and is worried about the things that could go wrong.
- Appreciate and Smile- Shifts the negative thinking to something positive. We can use the positive energy to do something good.
- Be Here Now- Savor the moment. Focus on today. What we do today affects tomorrow. Write everything that’s worrying you about the possible future and let it go. You’ll find a solution when the time arises. GLBLGuy shared the Caveman a Bible quote from Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
- Act- Feelings are indicators of things we should do. I identify what’s causing the anxiety and work on correcting that cause.
- Put it in Perspective- Like I said to my friend Diane and the Caveman, “Some people, like me, wishes they had your worries.”
Anxiety in small amounts isn’t a bad thing. It guides us in the right direction in life. It does get overwhelming sometimes but there are ways to handle it.
Thanks. Now that I’ve had a weekend to work on getting the house ready, I feel much better than I did last week. There is still a lot more work to do, but at least it’s “move in-ready” for the baby, now. I really don’t think anything will go wrong, it’s just there are/were too many other things going on in my life to give me a chance to look at any of them clearly.
