Finding Money at Home

Look around you. What do you see? I see money that needs to be freed up. There are probably a few things in your home that you haven’t used in awhile or probably don’t want at all. I know I have a few things at home I can get rid of.

A few weeks ago, I posted a few things on CraigsList to clear out my closet, raise money for charity, and help pay off these credit card bills. So far, I’ve raised $125.00. I need to reduce the prices of the other items so they move on out. Using CraigsList doesn’t cost a thing and using it is pretty straight forward.

Another option is to have a yard sale or a garage sale. It’s great for smaller items that people are not willing to go out of their way to get such as paperback books, vases, and toys.

I’ve had mixed results using eBay and other auction sites. It’s a great site if you have something that has reasonable shipping costs and is in demand. If it’s not in demand, you might be stuck with listing fees. There may also be headaches trying to ship it to another city.

Selling collectible and precious metals is something I am looking into. I have comic books in pretty good condition that I hope has some value. I will probably keep one or two as keepsakes but the rest can go for the greater good. I don’t want to sell it on eBay as I am unsure of their condition and do not want to cheat anyone. There is jewelery that I am considering to sell for its metal content. I haven’t worn it since my freshman year in college and I can’t see myself wearing it again. I plan to sell it in Chicago’s jewelery district on South Wabash Avenue. If I don’t sell it, it collects dust unused. If I do sell it, it will get use from someone else.

Not only will I raise money to eliminate my debt, I will also clear my life of clutter. Come back next week as I consider another option to raise money.
