A Look Back and a Giant Leap Forward, A Review of 2007

Two thousand seven was a tough year. My life didn’t move in the direction I wanted it to go for most of the year. The woman I dated for two years moved to Philadelphia. I experienced company lay-offs twice. I dealt with a horrible landlord that stole half of my security deposit. Things in life aren’t guaranteed. These events eventually guided me towards the right path.

I decided to go back to school for my finance degree, more specifically, in real estate finance and portfolio management. I hope to blend this with what I learned at Loyola University to provide a good living and help people along the way by planning and developing property and communities. I applied and attended Malcolm X College to save money and get a few pre-requisites out of the way. In the process, I earned straight A’s for the first time ever during my academic career. I am on the City Colleges of Chicago’s academic honors list and I can put Presidential Scholar on my resume.

I expect one giant leap forward in 2008. I set my eyes on another set of straight A’s for the Spring 2008 semester and transfer to UIC in the fall. My career in the financial world begins this year. I need to gain knowledge through academics, listening to others, and personal experience. I will seek a summer internship in finance or accounting to gain some real world experience at the corporate level. To pursue my passions directly, I seek the best companies to invest through financial and sociological tools and participate in real estate. I hope this will become another source of income while I am in school. After being laid of twice last year, I realize that I can not rely on a company for financially security.

Some lemons I received this year turned into lemonade. The rest will be part of a delicious multi-course meal in 2008. Wish me luck. I hope you have a wonderful and fruitful new year.
